Blog Talk: IABC Silver Quills 2007 Side Program

This Friday, the Malaysian Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) will hold its Silver Quills Award ceremony, honouring the best communication efforts of Malaysia's corporates.

The event will be attended by Minister of Women, Family & Community Development Dato' Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, and will be held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

The side program may interest you if you are a blogger, or if you're wondering how blogging has affected how corporates relate to their public. Seats are still available, and you can get the details by clicking the IABC Malaysia logo at the top of this posting. Price includes a scrumptious hi-tea.

Renowned blogger and friend Jeff Ooi will be part of a three-panel team, along with another famous blogger Ahiruddin "Rocky" Attan. Also on the panel is branding expert and award-winning author Nick Wreden. Your truly will be moderating the session.

I am told that this is a pre-cursor to more blogging-related events that are going to take place in Malaysia this year, both by IABC Malaysia and other organisations. It should serve the blogging community and its readers well.

See you there!

Be Back Soon!

My trusty Nokia 6288 will be back tomorrow after successfully going through a transplant following a near-watery death some 3 weeks ago...

That means there'll be more postings!

My brother sent me a picture of another language abuse by a public-listed company; I'll post the same. Send yours to me: rb.amero@gmail.com

Cheers!

Vacancies Here (So-so English Can Oso Lorr)

For this job, you must ENABLE yourself to work overtime. This IT store owner probably has seen one too many ENABLE menus on the computer!

By the way, a VACANY is a derivative of VACANCY; the "C" is omitted as a mark of respect to the intelligence of humans. I'm sure you have received the email that points out that one can omit certain alphabets in a word and humans can still read the word.

Apart from that, it saves ink, and to conserve is to save. Good economics.

But if I were you, I'd go for this opportunity on the right.

A VANCANCY means part of the job will require you to conduct sales from a van; that to me is a great benefit as it means you get to get out of the office at times.

This employer also has a salary rise built-in into the contract; you start at RM900 monthly, but that rises by RM100 in three months! You also get RM130 monthly meal allowance, which is a whole lot higher than my previous employer's budget!

But the penalty for what is termed as SUDDEN ABSENT is quite stiff, so make sure you plan your leave, and inform your relatives and kin to try and live a healthy life. It would help too if your relatives falls sick or worse only on your day off. RM50 is a bout a week's gasoline on a 660cc Kancil.

This Show is PRESENTATED By...

I'm no Italian, but is PRESENTATED an Italian word?

The Hilton KL is having an Italian promotion called "La Dolce Vita", and all things Italian are displayed there. Italian car Alfa is part of the promotion (although strangely a smart fortwo is also displayed in Italian colours. I'm pretty sure they're not Italian).

Anyways, the close up above comes from the poster you see here.

Surely a company as large as Auto Italia, part of the Sime Darby group could have employed an able PR counsel for this. Heck, why not a spell-checker if times are hard?

Ahh.. the colours of Malaysia.
